MEM_BAD_POINTER Errors on XP/SP2

Service Pack 2 for Windows XP has a bug that is correctly detected by SmartHeap and reported as a MEM_BAD_POINTER error. SmartHeap 8.1 and later will automatically suppress this error message in most cases, but if you are running software linked to an earlier version of SmartHeap then you may see this error if you're running XP/SP2. As far as we have been able to determine, the error does not result in any data corruption, but it can be annoying and inconvenient. Microsoft has released a hotfix for this bug: see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;910466. We
recommend installing this hotfix even if "Install files for East Asian languages" is not selected.
